Tinos3 and the great issue wars
Tinos3 and the Great Issue Wars Hi! We're taking a look back at October and the issues Tinos3 has encountered along the way. These issues have ranged from relatively easy fixes to problems that are outside my control. There have been a LOT of bugs in Tinos3 this month. However, since we rewrote the environment and the entire codebase, we've also managed to eliminate a few issues from the old, legacy codebase. This post will focus exclusively on issues encountered after the rewrite. Lua When Lua was introduced during the rewrite, we encountered an issue where Lua wouldn't recognize a custom-registered Lua function. This eventually resulted in a .NET exception when the function returned a nil value. It was one of the issues we had to investigate while getting Lua integration working properly in the rewritten codebase. Formatting and partitioning More recently, we encountered a bug in the FDisk utility that prevented it from formatting a partition unless the disk had already been mounted. This created a bit of a catch-22: the utility needed to mount the partition before formatting it, but the partition couldn't be mounted because it didn't have a filesystem yet. Fortunately, this issue has now been fixed! Graphics, resources, and the mouse As development of the desktop environment and window system continues, we've encountered an issue where the mouse cursor doesn't change position. This issue remains unresolved as of writing this post. We also ran into a few issues involving the mouse cursor's resources, but those have since been fixed. These fixes weren't a major part of the development commits, so they were easy to overlook among the other changes. What's next? Development continues, and so does the debugging. With Tinos3 0.2 still a way off, there's plenty of work left to do as we improve the desktop experience and resolve the remaining issues. Our goal is to release Tinos3 0.2 by the end of 2027. More updates will follow as development progresses!
Rewrite complete
Hi! We're excited to announce that our rewrite has finally been completed and merged into the main branch! 🎉 The main branch has gained over 50 commits, bringing the project closer to 80 commits in total. With nearly 4,425 additions and 1,060 deletions, Tinos3 0.2 has come a long way, and we're excited to see where development goes next! A note about 0.2-beta1: The tag points to the state of the main branch before the rewrite was merged, so keep that in mind when checking out the release. Thanks for following the development of Tinos3. There's more to come!
REWRITE: Development pauses
Tinos3 is undergoing a complete rewrite Hi! Recently, I came to the decision that Tinos3 needs a complete rewrite. This is a major step forward for the project, but it will also affect the current development process. As a result, the following changes will take place: All current issues and pull requests will be closed. The existing reports and contributions may no longer be applicable to the rewritten implementation. The main repository will be frozen. No updates will be made until the rewrite is complete. Support for Tinos3 0.1 will be discontinued. The current version will no longer receive support. Development updates will be paused. I won't be posting regular status updates for a while as I focus on the rewrite. I understand that this will cause delays, and I'm sorry for the disruption. However, I believe this rewrite is a necessary step for Tinos3 as a whole and will provide a better foundation for its future development. Thank you to everyone who has followed Tinos3 and its development so far. I really appreciate the interest and support the project has received. If you have any questions or concerns about the rewrite, feel free to ask them in the cosmos chats Tinos3 room under #cosmos-projects channel. Thank you for your understanding! — randomusert
(Hopefully) Weekly status updates on development
Hi! We’re excited to show YOU our latest desktop progress! We’ve been busy since the last update, and we’ve made some nice progress. We’ve actually just updated the help command in the latest revision of [PR #14](#14). For now, this is where we’re at. We’re really happy to see how much progress we’ve made, especially considering that development started back in July. We’ve fairly recently started picking up the pace with Tinos3 development, and we’re excited to see where it takes us! And one more announcement: From now on, we’ll TRY to release status updates weekly! See you in the next update!

Information on announcements and more information for upcoming version (0.2)
Hi! We've been busy over the last few days, and we have some new features to show you. Desktop so far: As you can see, we now have a full mouse cursor! It sadly doesn't do much yet. As mentioned in the previous announcement about the current features of this update, we still have the same features, but the desktop has been improved. We also now have a mouse cursor and, internally, a Start menu. The Start menu doesn't work properly yet, but it's there and is currently being worked on. From now on, if an announcement has been proofread by AI, it will be mentioned as follows: This announcement has been proofread by AI and improved based on the feedback. Graphics: The graphics update look 1
Hi everyone! We're excited to announce the first official look at what Tinos3 0.2 will add. Of course, the update will focus primarily on graphics. Changes so far Desktop development Loading asset files from disk Updated Cosmos Various internal improvements We're excited to see how the update comes together! Sadly, we don't have an ETA for the release yet. As previously announced by @randomusert, development is currently a bit slower as Tinos3 is being developed by a single developer.
